Beyond Good And Evil 2 Shows Signs Of Life After Nearly Two Decades

If it ever comes out, Beyond Good and Evil 2 may take home the record for the longest development period in video game history. It's been 17 years and counting, but Ubisoft has sent out a job listing that suggests development on the follow-up to Beyond Good and Evil is still in progress.

Ubisoft has posted a job on Hitmarker for a technical sound designer for Beyond Good and Evil 2. The role calls for the person in question to have the duties of both a sound designer and an audio technical lead with an emphasis on creating audio assets, as well as proposing and integrating audio designs.

More intriguingly, the listing reconfirms that Beyond Good & Evil 2 will be a prequel to the original game that offers "a seamless experience of exploration and space piracy across a solar system full of exotic locations, colorful characters and mysteries to uncover, solo or with friends." That suggests the sequel will have multiplayer capabilities

Last year's Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition set the stage for the prequel story by adding a side quest that allowed the main character, Jade, to learn about the people and creatures who raised her when she lived among a pirate crew while she was a child. However, it doesn't appear that the sequel will address the post-credits cliffhanger from the original game.

Michel Ancel--the director of the original Beyond Good & Evil--stepped down from the sequel and retired in 2020. The game's creative director, Emile Morel, passed away suddenly in 2023.

In 2020, Netflix announced a Beyond Good & Evil movie from director Rob Letterman, who previously helmed Detective Pikachu. However, that project never materialized. The only news of note outside of the game was a callback to Beyond Good & Evil in Astro Bot earlier this year.
