Modder Adds Thomas The Tank Engine To Morrowind, Hints At Legal Threats From Mattel

If you've ever seen the mods that put Thomas the Tank Engine in Fallout 4, Resident Evil Village, and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, it was largely due to the work of modder known as Trainwiz‬. Now, Trainwiz has struck again by placing Thomas in The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, while hinting that he's been on the receiving end of Mattel's displeasure for his work.

Trainwiz‬ released the Really Useful Cliffracers mod on Nexus Mods, which swaps out the flying cliff racers with Thomas the Tank Engine. Trainwiz also left comments on the page that read like a direct challenge to Mattel.

"I made a mod that replaces cliffracers with Thomas the Tank Engine," wrote ‪Trainwiz‬. "I am incapable of learning lessons whenever it involves corporations, because I fundamentally do not view toy company CEOs or media CEOs as people."

"In between working on my game and dying of various accidental injuries, I sometimes feel like I need to milk a particular joke until its inevitable demise," added Trainwiz. "I will do this no matter how many legal threats, actual threats, black vans with the Mattel logo on them, or severed Barbie heads are mailed to me."

As noted by IGN, Trainwiz told The Face in 2019 that his Fallout 4 Thomas the Tank Engine mod got the attention of Mattel's lawyers, and it doesn't sound like it was a pleasant experience.

"I got in so much trouble" said Trainwiz. "Mattel pretty much want me dead at this point--it's the reason why the Fallout 4 mod can’t be found on any normal website."

Mattel may take a dim view of Trainwiz's work, but the modder has been positively acknowledged by Bethesda before. And despite the recent release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, the ambitious fan-made reimagining, Skyblivon, is nearing release after 10 years in development.
