Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith has revealed that he's open to talking with Keanu Reeves about whether his character, Johnny Silverhand, could come back in a future project connected to the series.
Appearing in a REDstreams broadcast, Pondsmith said he saw the headlines where Reeves himself said he would be keen to come back and called on Reeves to pick up the phone.
"I saw that Keanu would like to find a way to come back from the dead and play Johnny again. I have ways to do that, Keanu. Contact me," Pondsmith said, as reported by IGN.
Silverhand is a former rockstar who appears in Cyberpunk 2077 in the form of a digital engram long after his physical body dies. The character's fate at the end of Cyberpunk 2077 can depend on the ending that players receive. Given that, it appears possible that he could return in Cyberpunk 2, but that's far from a guarantee that it would happen, as that would depend on a countless combination of factors.
Reeves wasn't the only celebrity to be featured in Cyberpunk 2077, as Idris Elba played Solomon Reed in the game's popular expansion, Phantom Liberty. Pondsmith joked that CD Projekt Red might look to continue the celebrity trajectory even further.
"So let me get this straight, you got Keanu Reeves, and then you turn around and get Idris Elba. What's next? Scarlett Johansson?" he said. "Scarlett, you know, I have roles for you. You can do anything."
There is no release date set as of yet for Cyberpunk 2, which was previously known as Orion. As for CD Projekt's other upcoming games, the company is making The Witcher 4 and is co-producing a remake of the original Witcher game with developer Fool's Theory.
